Heavy rainfall in immediate forecast

After dry weather on much of Tuesday, chances for rain will rise Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms will become numerous, especially over central and southern Arkansas. In this part of the state, two, to more than four inches of rain could occur. There will also be the possibility of severe weather.

Given a saturated ground and ongoing river flooding, any appreciable rain will aggravate an already serious high water situation.

Jefferson County and most of Arkansas remains under a flood watch.

Between three and five inches of rainfall is expected across the watch area, and higher amounts could occur in some local areas. This could be especially problematic in areas that have already received excessive rainall from the previous storm system.
