For those who like to routinely check and monitor their blood pressure and BMI (body mass index) without visiting the doctor’s office, the Pine Bluff Community Center, 1000 S. Ash St., is now offering the free Heart Check Center testing station.
In an effort to raise public health awareness to the dangers that come with high blood pressure and obesity, CHI St. Vincent recently installed the free and easy-to-use Heart Check Center inside the community center. All are welcome to stop by and start using it.
“High blood pressure and obesity are both significant risk factors that can lead to a wide range of serious health issues. When these conditions co-exist, they can increase one’s risk of serious health problems like; heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, stroke, blindness, and even death in some cases if left untreated,” according to a news release.
This blood pressure and BMI testing kiosk has the capability of helping people live much healthier and happier lives, according to the release.
“This new blood pressure and BMI testing station is a wonderful way for people to learn about the importance of regular blood pressure and BMI screenings,” said Bonnie Ward, market director of Marketing and Communications for CHI St. Vincent. “We’re excited about sponsoring this free service at the Pine Bluff Community Center because it provides thousands of people, every week, a very simple and convenient way to measure their blood pressure and BMI and obtain relevant health information that will enable them to take action towards a healthier life.”

With no appointment needed, no cost required, never any waiting lines, and no invasive procedures required — users just place an arm in the testing cuff and follow the directions to use. In two minutes the Heart Check Center clearly and accurately displays one’s blood pressure or BMI results.
“Since the installation of the Heart Check Center equipment, we have seen remarkable engagement from our visitors, particularly those ages 30 to 75, who have greatly benefited from the daily health screenings, BMI calculator, Heart Quiz, and the wealth of information provided,” said Trudy Redus, director of the Pine Bluff Parks & Recreation Department. “It is truly gratifying to witness how the Heart Check Center has enhanced the quality of life for the residents of our community.”
