Master of Science in Nursing students in the School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello recently collaborated with A+ School Apparel in Star City to bring a health fair to their employees.
The fair focused on cardiovascular health and diabetes, according to a news release.
The Master of Science students, who are already registered nurses, provided services including blood glucose checks and blood pressure analyses. They also educated A+ School Apparel employees on hypertension and stroke prevention and provided informative materials for employees to take home.
To further support health and wellness, employees entered a drawing for a free blood pressure cuff and a glucometer kit. The luau-themed health fair combined activities and learning, providing health awareness information in an inviting environment, according to the release.
“We are honored to partner with A+ School Apparel to develop their first employee health fair and hope our participation informs their employees on ways to mitigate health risks,” said Brandy Haley, dean of the UAM School of Nursing.
“Part of our objective in these types of community service initiatives is to teach our MSN graduate students different methods to emphasize the importance of primary disease prevention, population health policy development and assurance processes that create better social, personal and economic environments,” she said.
The Master of Science in Nursing program at UAM offers two tracks for RNs to obtain their degrees: RN to MSN and BSN to MSN. Both tracks begin in January and June. Details: www.uamont.edu/nursing or (870) 460-1069.
