Guachoya announces March 9 reception

Guachoya Cultural Art Center at Lake Village will have a reception for an exhibit by Cherie Clark and the Guachoya Paint Ladies Class.

The public is invited to this free event from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 9. The exhibit will be open until Tuesday, March 28.

Clark holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Delta State University. She is a professional artist and shows her work in galleries all over the United States. She contract teaches through the Delta Arts Alliance in Cleveland Mississippi and is currently commissioned with bringing art studies to elementary students.

She teaches classes under the umbrella of the Greenville Arts Commission. Clark is also registered as a teaching artist on the Mississippi State University registry and is a contracted teacher for the Mississippi Arts in Academics residency program of Mississippi State University. She is a board member of the Greenville Arts Commission and the exhibit chair of the Delta Artists Association.

Clark paints figurative abstracts. Her subject matter is the female form.

“I paint women because this is the way I experience the world. My paintings are pages from the diary of my life. Every woman I paint is telling a story. My women represent my thoughts, emotions and experiences. My work is definitely narrative,” she said in a news release.

The Paint Class Ladies meet each Thursday evening at Guachoya and their paintings are a variety of subjects. They live in Lake Village and in surrounding towns.

Guachoya is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Details: 870-265-6077.
