When the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs asked for help with refreshments for the Spirit of 45 Celebration at the Capitol, three organizations joined forces to do so: The United States Daughters of 1812, the National Society Colonial Dames 17th Century and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Seventeen volunteers from across the state converged on the Capitol for the Spirit of 45 Celebration on Aug. 14 to honor the 140 veterans of World War II in attendance and the 70th anniversary of the end of that war.
Members of the three organizations baked and donated money for the refreshments and supplies. The standing-room-only rotunda was filled with about 500 attendees.
Flags, thank-you cards and lapel pins were provided by the organizations to the veterans.
