Thanking them for their service, the United States Daughters of 1812 on Constitution Day delivered pocket Constitutions to veterans at the Eugene Towbin Veterans Affairs Healthcare Center in North Little Rock.

The pocket Constitutions were provided by Rolling Thunder Inc. Chapter #1 Arkansas. U.S.D. 1812 State Officers Sheila Beatty and Joan Davis, both from Hot Springs Village; Kimberley Stout of Little Rock; and Sharon Stanley Wyatt of Pine Bluff presented the Constitutions to veterans and staff.

In the medical center’s adult day health care area, the group met veterans who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

“All were sharp and friendly and were appreciative of the visit and the pamphlets. One, a Silver Star recipient, served in Korea and Vietnam,” according to a news release.

Adult day health care serves as a fellowship time with other veterans. It is recreation time with bingo being a favorite activity. The day out gives respite to their caregivers.

Sept. 17 is designated as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution in Philadelphia on Sept. 17, 1787. The small booklet also contains a copy of the Declaration of Independence and is fully indexed.

Constitution Day is celebrated each year in the United States as a day to raise awareness about the U.S. Constitution. According to the law, each federal agency is required to provide new employees with educational and training materials about the U.S. Constitution as part of orientation. Additionally, federal agencies are required to provide U.S. Constitution education and training materials to all employees on Sept. 17. The Department of Defense has created a Constitution Day website that includes quizzes and a Constitution course for military and civilian employees.
