Patsy Brown presented the program, “Decorating Made Easy and Low Cost,” at the recent meeting of the Grace Willing Workers Extension Homemakers.
Brown opened her program by stating that paint spreads more style for less money than any other decorating basic and that there is no right or wrong color when decorating. She did say that color does affect the mood of occupants.
Brown gave the following tips for low cost decorating: Use opposite textures to prevent boredom; arrange accessories at different eye levels; hang artwork 6 to 9 inches above the furniture; use mismatched flatware; redecorate with what you have, find all the items of one color and group them together; group old photographs together in any room; use leftover wallpaper to cover lampshades, wastebaskets, or desk accessories; move lamps from one room to another and get a friend to work with you.
Brown concluded her program by stating the importance of planning before redecorating and sleeping on the plan before using it.
Several members brought items for Show and Tell. Bettye Johnson brought a mat for the homeless which was made out of plastic bags.
