Grace Willing Workers Extension Homemaker’s Club met recently for its monthly meeting and potluck luncheon at the Centennial Fellowship Church.
Geneva Gray presented the program, “Something Slushy.” Gray opened her program by serving an assortment of strawberry, banana, grape, and green apple slushies. Scott Fitzwater, from the Hawaiian Bliss on West 28th Avenue, donated the syrup and shaved ice for the slushy demonstration.
Gray also told the group about making smoothies at home. You don’t even need a recipe. All it takes is a blender, some fruit, and a liquid such as juice, dairy, or a soymilk product. Adding flax seeds, tofu, protein powder, or wheat germ boosts the smoothie’s nutritional value. Gray closed her program by stating that on hot, humid days nothing tastes better than an icy cold treat.
Debbie James, club president, conducted the business session of the meeting. Another scrapbook workshop taught by herself and Marjorie Zuber was very successful. The group completed four more scrapbook pages: winter, Halloween, patriotic and spring. James, Zuber, Carolyn Harness, Liz Crosby, Nancy Rosen, Barbara Stone, Brenda Robinson, Delores Kelley, Dixie Fritz, Judy Griffin, Kaye Richardson, and Lynda Toler from Grace Willing Workers plus two guests attended the workshop.
The Jefferson County Extension Homemaker’s casserole cover and apron workshop was enjoyed by all who attended. Those attending from Grace Willing Workers were Zuber, James, Connie Herrin, Rosen, Crosby, Cathy Lewis, Toler, Harness, Mary Miller, Gray, and Fritz.

Community Service was discussed. A total of 587 food items were collected from Grace Willing Workers for the Transformation Project’s Food Pantry this year according to Kaye Richardson, project chairman. All of the loom knitted cancer caps, which club members have been knitting, need to be turned in by Nov. 1. The club voted to donate and support the charity functions of the Transformation Project as their main community service project for the 2012-2013 EHC year.
Bettye Johnson, vice president, reminded the club of the upcoming county fellowship tours: “Hairspray” at the Arts and Science Center of Southeast Arkansas, and the Rice Expo in Stuttgart.
Other upcoming Jefferson County Extension Homemaker’s events mentioned at the meeting were the annual “Christmas in July” at the Extension Office, a health fair sponsored by the Jefferson County Extension Homemakers at the Fallis Waterfront Building, and the JCEHC picnic to be held at Centennial Fellowship Church.
Johnson presented Faye Armstrong with a pin and certificate for over 10 years of service to the Extension Homemakers. Armstrong was unable to attend the Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Spring Council where the pins and certificates were awarded.
Fritz, and Sarah James were hostesses for the potluck luncheon.
