The Gould High School Combined Class Reunion Committee recently announced its class reunion will be held in Gould on May 25-27.
Students from the classes of 1970-1972 will travel from around the state, as well as the country, to attend this year’s reunion. Some of the students who graduated during those years represent longstanding families of Lincoln and Desha counties, including the Kearney, Allen, Nichols, Cannon, Mangrum, Minor, Lane, Parker, Jasper, Bones, Arnold, Norah, Parks and Dixon families, and a host of others.
Alice Allen Collins, president of the 2012 GHS Combined Reunion Committee, said she is very excited about this year’s event.
“This year’s reunion is a celebration of a proud past, as well as our present and future,” she said, adding that the reunion includes three classes and marks over 40 years since any of the students sat in classrooms at Gould High School or marched across the high school gymnasium to receive their diplomas.
“We want to make clear that all students attending the school between 1970-1972, whether they graduated or not, are invited to participate.”

Coach Johnny Hendrix, longtime coach of Gould High School’s basketball program, will serve as keynote speaker during the reunion banquet at 7 p.m. May 26 at the Ramada Inn in Pine Bluff. Hendrix currently serves as head coach of the Dumas High School basketball program, where he continues his “outstanding winning record.”
The three-day reunion will also include a reception at the Gould Lions Club at 6 p.m. May 25 and a picnic from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 26. Reunion participants will also attend a church service at First Baptist Church at Gould at 11:30 a.m. May 27. A farewell reception will be held at 3 p.m. May 27 at the Gould Lions Club.
The public is invited to attend all of these events.
