CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff baseball team held Oregon State to five hits on Friday.
But the Beavers were still able to push more runs across than the Golden Lions, who also had five hits, for a 5-3 win to open the three-game series.
Oregon State (21-11) took a 2-0 lead after three innings with a run each in the second and third innings.
The Beavers would hold onto that lead as UAPB (6-26-1) got back-to-back-to-back RBIs from Cornelius Williams, Christian Weeber and Jacob Whitney to take the 3-2 lead.
Oregon State responded in the seventh inning as Ryan Dunn drove in the first run on an RBI and with one out, Dylan Davis grounded out to drive in the go-ahead run. The Beavers would later add another run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Redmond Floyd started the game for the Golden Lions, went four innings and gave up two runs on two hits, walked three and struck out five. Both runs charged to Floyd were unearned.
Stanten Jones relieved Floyd and pitched 2 1/3 innings and was plagued by walks. He gave up seven free passes during his time on the mound and gave up two runs on two hits and struck out one batter as he was tagged for the loss. His record falls to 2-6 on the year.
Brett Schweiger pitched the final 1 2/3 innings as he gave up one run on one hits and walked two batters.
Williams was 1 for 4 in the game with a run scored an RBI. Sean Samsa and Wilton Guzman also scored a run in the game for the Golden Lions.
Ryan Gorton was 2 for 2 at the play for Oregon State and drew three walks.
Matt Boyd came on in relief and pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit ball to pick up his third win of the year.
Tony Bryant pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his eighth save. Ben Wetzler started the game and went 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three. All of Wetzler’s runs were unearned.
The second game of the series is at 4:05 p.m. Central today at Goss Stadium.
