Glaring mistake
Editor, The Commercial:
The new street lamps are now glaring through office windows. The street lights we already had were great without lighting up the insides of rooms in adjacent buildings.
After having been parked on Main Street, people often neglected to turn on the headlights of their cars at night because they could see just fine because the old street lights lit up the street so well.
“Streetscape” along with the entire Go Forward Pine Bluff folly is another episode in the 50-year series of wasteful spending productions by the city. Not only that, but it is anti-community.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Like the former Soviet Russia, the kingpins of this boondoggle are dictating to the community what people must like and want. When I requested minor and not unreasonable modifications to the plan, to make it more compatible and harmonious with this existing property which is a historic landmark, I was told under no uncertain terms by Larry Matthews that “It’s about Main Street, not about individual merchants.”
He can twist his arm patting himself on the back when it’s done. Everyone without exception who commented to me about this street project said: “Why are they doing it like that. It’s stupid.”
