University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff wide receiver JaVonnie Gibson was named an HBCU All-American by BOXTOROW Media on Thursday.
Gibson was the lone UAPB player to earn a spot on the team, which is voted on by media members who cover HBCU football.
This recognition for Gibson comes in addition to his placement on the All-SWAC First Team. The sophomore from Opelousas, La., caught 70 passes for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns this season after transferring from Arkansas-Monticello.
He led both the SWAC and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in receiving yards, touchdowns and yards per game. He finished tied for the most receptions.
Virginia Union sophomore Reginald Vick Jr. was the lone other receiver named to the HBCU All-American team.
MEAC champion South Carolina State leads all teams with six selections. Jackson State and Alabama State had four each. Alcorn State, North Carolina Central, Tennessee State and Virginia Union each had two.
Following his stellar season, Gibson announced last week he intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens later this month.
