The Arkansas Department of Correction’s Paws in Prison program will celebrate its first birthday with a fundraiser from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Grand Hall of the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion.
“Bark at Dark” will feature silent and live auctions, a special demonstration of skills by some of the Paws dogs, a review of some of the success stories, and refreshments.
Since Paws in Prison began in December 2011, approximately 130 dogs have been saved from possibly dying in shelters, a spokesman said. The program also helps inmates who train the dogs.
