A free community health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Watkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Juniper St.
James Mazique, health fair chairman, is a registered nurse at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He and other health care professionals will conduct the fair.
The objectives of the event include providing health care services to those in need and detecting health care issues not previously diagnosed.
“Our project goal is to encourage the maintenance of good health through health promotion, screening and prevention of illness,” Mazique said in a news release.
Several booths will be set up at the health fair. The event will also offer free electrocardiograms (EKG), a sign-up section for mammograms, heart attack risk assessment, HIV testing, prostate screening (blood draw only), oral care, weight balance test, blood type test and sexually transmitted disease (STD) prevention and detection.

Some members of the health care profession who have agreed to participate in this event include the Jefferson County Health Department, Jefferson Comprehensive Care System, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Prostate Cancer Foundation, JRMC, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff School of Nursing, Southeast Arkansas School of Nursing, Arkansas Heart Hospital and ARORA (Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency).
“Several awareness booths will be set up for our guests to visit. Confidential charts will be provided for the guest, it will show parameters for measurement for each test. The health care professional will also provide exit counseling to the guests,” Mazique said.
