Port City Blues Society will host an edition of the Midtown Blues concert series at 8 p.m. Jan. 3 featuring the Mississippi blues sounds of Fred T and The Band at RJ’s Sports Grill & Bar, 128 S. Main St.
The doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is free for Port City Blues Society members and $5 for others. The blues series is made possible by Midtown Tire & Auto and Explore Pine Bluff, according to a news release.
Fred T (Fredrick Robinson) formed his band in 2016 in his home state of Mississippi. He and his band strive to create and reinterpret popular blues songs of the past and present. His music is influenced by popular artists such as B.B. King, Keb Mo and Johnny “Guitar” Watson.
Along with Delta blues, the band plays a wide range of songs from artists such as Prince, Chris Stapleton and the Isley Brothers.
“Fred T has a stage presence that brings the crowd in and makes them part of his story as he dances and smiles his way through the blues beat grooves,” according to the release. “He writes and performs many of his own songs, as well as plays covers of many of the blues greats. His Mississippi blues music is infused with a gospel feel that compels crowds to get up and dance.”
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Fred T and The Band has become a popular blues band on both sides of the Mississippi River, frequently playing at various venues in Mississippi and Arkansas. Fred T periodically visits Port City Blues Society events in Pine Bluff, where he has become a crowd favorite, according to the release.
Port City Blues Society, which promotes the concerts, is an affiliated member of The Blues Foundation.
The society seeks to preserve and promote blues music and the culture of Delta blues, and to educate the public about the history of the blues in the region.
Port City Blues Society also hosts a free weekly blues jam every Wednesday at RJ’s Sports Grill & Bar where area musicians converge to play live blues from 8-11 p.m.
