Fordyce handles Bearden to even record at 3-3

FORDYCE — The Redbugs got a balanced scoring effort and beat the Bearden Bears 74-61 on Monday night. Fordyce improved to 3-3 with the win.

Sophomore Gary Cross led the Redbugs with 23 points, while three of his teammates joined him in double-figures. Rashad Allen had 15 points, with Patrick Thomas and Michael Hemphill each adding 11.

Reached by phone on Monday night, coach Stan Jones said his team was also better on the boards in addition to having a balanced scoring attack.

“We did a better job rebounding (Monday night) and I thought the scoring was a lot more balanced than it usually is,” Jones said.

The Redbugs will travel to Hot Springs Lakeside for a 7 p.m. game on Friday night.

FORDYCE — The Lady Redbugs jumped all over the Lady Bears and led 40-14 at halftime. Lakitta Grandy led Fordyce (5-2) with 17 points and grabbed five rebounds. Madison Adams added eight points and six rebounds.

For coach Ronald Smead, he was pleased with the Lady Redbugs’ ability to pick up easy baskets.

“I thought we finished a lot better at the basket than we have in the past,” Smead said. “The intensity level was high all night.”

Next for Fordyce is a 6 p.m. Friday game at Hot Springs Lakeside.
