Food Safety March 23

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

Here are recent reports:

HAZEL FINE DELI GROCERY, 2510 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection March 11. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed drinks stored directly on the floor. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations. Observed wiping cloths laying on counter top. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment. Observed soil ceiling tiles need to be replaced. Non-food contact surfaces of equipment shall be cleaned at a frequency necessary to preclude accumulation of soil residues.

ELIOR NORTH AMERICA @ SOUTHWOOD ELEMENTARY, 4200 S. Fir St. Date of inspection March 11. Observed a leak on the side of the three compartment sink faucet. The faucet should be repaired or replaced. Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use.

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR INC., 1419 Pine St. Date of follow-up inspection March 17.Dishwasher is still in disrepair. Sign was placed on dishwasher that says “Do not use.” Manager said she would contact inspector when it is repaired or replaced.

At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Sanitizer is not dispensing properly in the automatic dishwasher. A chlorine solution shall measure 50- 100 mg/L at a temperature of 75°F-100°F.
