The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

POPEYE’S LOUISIANA KITCHEN, 8101 Sheridan Road. Date of inspection July 11. Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Observed a build up of residue on the vent hood. Intake and exhaust air ducts shall be cleaned and filters changed so they are not a source of contamination by dust, dirt, and other materials.

NOOR INVESTMENT PROPERTY LLC, 6605 Highway 79 S. Date of inspection July 11. Observation: Some equipment in the kitchen area are not being used. Corrective Action: The PREMISES shall be free of items that are unnecessary to the operation or maintenance of the establishment such as EQUIPMENT that is nonfunctional or no longer used and litter.

DOLLAR GENERAL STORE, 1675 W. Front St., Altheimer. Observation: Observed ice cream cooler with food debris. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

MOTEL 6, 3103 Market St. Date of inspection July 18. Only coffee is served at this establishment. Observed dishes for coffee machine being dried on a towel. After cleaning and sanitizing, equipment and utensils shall be air dried and may not be cloth dried. Observed coffee straws being stored uncovered in a cup by the coffee station. Single service items must be stored in original package or in a manner that prevents contamination. Observed a trash can containing coffee residue being stored uncovered in the kitchen when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be kept covered when not in continuous use.

BURGER KING, 7820 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection July 11. No paper towels observed at the hand washing sink in the men’s restroom. Provide a supply of individual disposable towels or a continuous towel system that supplies the user with a clean towel or a heated-air drying device at each handwashing sink in food preparation, toilet and warewashing areas. Paper towels were provided at the hand washing sink in the men’s restroom during the inspection. Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be kept covered when not in continuous use.

SCHLOTZSKY’S, 7750 Sheridan Road, Ste D. Date of follow-up inspection July 19. No violations reported.

ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 412 W. Sixth Ave. Date of inspection July 22. Observation: Clean walls next to hand washing. sink. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

HOPE EMPOWERMENT CENTER, 412 W. Sixth Ave. Date of inspection July 22. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM.
