Food Safety Jan. 26

The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

Here are recent reports:

SUBWAY, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Jan. 15. Observed a bag of onions being stored on the floor in the dry storage room. Food shall be protected from contamination by storing in a clean dry location where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination and at least 6 inches above the floor. Bag of onions were placed on a hook on the shelf during the inspection. Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be kept covered when not in continuous use.

IRISH MAID DONUT, 2320 S. Blake St. Date of inspection Jan. 15. Observed sugar not in original container. Food not in the original packages for use in Establishment must be identified with the common name of the Food. corrected on site.

DOLLAR GENERAL STORE, 14019 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Jan. 15. Observed an accumulation of debris on the floor in the dry storage room. Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.

CHAPEL FOOD MART, 5901 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection Jan. 15. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM.

FAMILY DOLLAR, 2801 Olive St. Date of inspection Jan. 16. Observed paper products stored directly on the floor. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations. Observed inside cooler needs to be cleaned. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

DOLLAR GENERAL STORE, 3100 S. Olive St. Date of inspection Jan. 16. Observed a few damaged ceiling tiles throughout the establishment. The physical facilities shall be maintained in good repair.

DOLLAR GENERAL, 4109 U.S. 65 South. Date of inspection Jan. 16. No hot water observed in restrooms. The water source and system shall be of sufficient capacity to meet the peak water demands of the RETAIL FOOD ESTABLISHMENT. Walls in the back dry storage area have debris on them. Clean the physical facilities as often as necessary to keep them clean.
