The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments that include restaurants, bars, day cares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

Here are recent reports:

OCEANS FISH AND CHICKEN, 2611 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Dec. 15, 2023. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed food in walk in cooler not covered. All food shall be kept covered. Person in charged covered food during time of inspection. Observed boxes of food directly on floor in walk-in freezer. Food must be stored six inches above the floor to be in compliance with established regulations. Observed wiping cloths laying on counter top. Wiping cloths shall be used as intended and in compliance with Regulations pertaining to Retail Food establishment. Observed paper products stored directly on floor. Items must be stored to prevent contamination. Observation: Observed walls and ceiling are soiled in kitchen area. Corrective Action: Nonfood contact surfaces shall be kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris. Observation: Observed build grease and debris on equipment. Corrective Action: The food contact surfaces of cooking equipment and pans shall be kept free of encrusted grease deposits and other soil accumulations.

FAMILY DOLLAR, 9203 Lee Springs Road. Date of opening inspection Jan. 9. Establishment is okay to operate.

GOOD SHEPHERD CHILDCARE & PRES, 1021 E. Second Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 8. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM.

HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS, 7800 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Jan. 8. At least one EMPLOYEE that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control FOOD preparation and service shall be a certified FOOD protection manager who has shown proficiency of required information through passing a test that is part of an ACCREDITED PROGRAM. Observed a box of raw bacon being stored above cooked eggs. Separate raw animal foods during storage, preparation, holding, and display from ready-to-eat food. The box of the raw bacon was moved to the bottom shelf of the refrigerator during the inspection. Cream cheese (57 degrees F) in the small refrigerator is out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Observed dishes being dried on a towel after being cleaned. After cleaning and sanitizing, equipment and utensils shall be air dried and may not be cloth dried.
