LITTLE ROCK — A workshop on the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act will be held June 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law at Little Rock.
The hosts are Attorney General Dustin McDaniel and the Arkansas Press Association.
Known as an FOIA “Road Show,” the workshop is designed to provide assistance to public officials who often handle FOIA matters. The free event is also open to all Arkansans who are interested in learning more about the state’s open records and open meetings law.
“We are glad to join with the Arkansas Press Association to host a workshop to help Arkansans gain a better understanding of one of the strongest open-government laws in the nation,” McDaniel said. “This Act has ensured transparency in our government for 45 years. We encourage anyone who wants to better understand this law to join us.”
Participants will hear presentations from the AG’s office about the law’s applicability and its exemptions. Also scheduled are question-and-answer sessions and a panel discussion by journalists and attorneys.
Attorneys who attend are eligible for two hours of Continuing Legal Education credit.
The event is free, but registration is required. Register by e-mail at info@arkansaspress.org or call (501) 374-1500.
