Seniors from First Baptist Church (SAMs) recently visited the Arkansas Arts Center and the Little Rock Zoo.
The senors visited the arts center to have lunch and view the 58th annual Delta Exhibition. The juried exhibition showcases the best works by artists from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
The juror, Elizabeth Garvey, is co-founder and owner of Garvey-Simon Art Access. She has been a fine art dealer and advisor in New York City for more than 20 years.
Lawrence McElroy from Alexander won the contemporaries award, oil on canvas, a full-length portrait of an African American with a cardboard sign “change.” Michael L. Eliott from Alexandria, La., had an impressive work entitled Juniper and Moon.
The seniors enjoyed lunch in the AAC restaurant, Best Impressions. Participants included the driver, John Boast; organizer, Jeanette McGrew; Audrey Borecky, Helen Campbell, Betty Craig, Leland Gion, Ann Holt and Catherine Long.

During the trip to the zoo, the SAMs were amazed at the changes there since the last time they visited. The zoo is home to 750 animals. Many are displayed in large open areas, much like their homes in the wild, with lots of grass and trees. Also, the grounds are beautiful with mass plantings of perennials and animals.
The Cafe Africa has a full lunch menu. The seniors couldn’t resist a ride on the Arkansas Diamond Express miniature train before leaving for home.
Participants included the driver Roger Minyard; events planner, Jeanette McGrew; Betty Craig, Ann Holt, Linda Minyard, Jimmie Lee Nichols and Brian Tubbs.
