The First Baptist book review of “The Assassination of Lincoln,” will be presented at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church, 6501 Hazel St.
Phillip McMath, a Little Rock lawyer, will make the presentation. The public is invited to attend. Door prizes and refreshments are furnished following the review.
McMath is an award winning writer, Marine Corps Vietnam War veteran and an advocate for preserving and promoting history and literature through his four novels and numerous short stories, articles and plays, according to a news release.
A son of former Arkansas Gov. Sidney McMath and Anne Phillips McMath, he graduated from Hall High School in 1963 before attending Hendrix College at Conway and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He is married to Carol Belew of Vernon, Texas.
McMath will share “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln.” The book details the assassination at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., by John Wilkes Booth, an American stage actor.
“Booth was a well known member of a prominent 19th century Booth theatrical family from Maryland, a Confederate sympathizer who strongly opposed the abolition of slavery in the United States,” according to a news release.
