“Three hundred forty-six firefighters and paramedics were killed during the Sept. 11th attacks,” a spokesman said. “They didn’t concern themselves with their own safety but unselfishly were more concerned about others even to the point of losing their lives. In memory of our fallen brothers and sisters we commemorate that day with a ceremony held on the anniversary.”
Residents are welcomed to attend at any fire station of their choosing. The ceremony includes a moment of silence, fire department personnel assembled at attention in front of the station flag pole, recognition of firefighters who may have died on duty the past year and the reading of the Firefighter’s prayer.
