Fire displaces family; no one injured

A fire at a house displaced a family of three people Friday, but no one was injured.

Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department firefighters responded to 320 Pear St. at about 7 p.m. and found a white house with smoke billowing out of it.

Veo Darrough said he lived at the house with his wife Maelean Darrough and her sister. He was holding one of his two dogs while surveying the fire.

Veo Darrough said he wished he had been home so he could have extinguished the blaze before it spread.

“I lost everything I own,” he said. “I am physically alright.”

Battalion Chief Harold Clark Jr. said three people lived at the house but were not home at the time of the blaze. The residents cannot stay at the house because of extensive damage.

Clark said he made arrangements with the Red Cross to assist the family with a temporary place to stay.

Clark said the department will investigate the cause and nature of the fire.
