The Pine Bluff High Fillies are off to a good start under their new head coach Alexandra Hart.
After opening the season with a win over White Hall in the Mid South Tournament Monday, the Fillies gained their second consecutive victory in a conference game over the Jacksonville Lady Titans by a final of 39-30 Tuesday.
In the beginning, both teams struggled to score as the Fillies made multiple trips to the free throw line. Many of the Fillies’ points came on second chance opportunities after crashing the offensive boards. With 1:03 left in the first quarter, the Lady Titans were forced to call a timeout as they were trailing by 12 points.
Pine Bluff had a size advantage in the post and that made it difficult for the Titans to get anything easy at the rim. At halftime the Fillies led 21-13.
Coming out of the intermission, the Fillies didn’t let up as they actually stepped it up. The Fillies attacked the basket for lay up attempts. On the other end the Fillies continued to play good defense, making it hard for Jacksonville to find a steady flow.

Midway through the third quarter, the Fillies controlled the game and Coach Hart elected to keep the pressure on by running a full court press, not allowing Jacksonville any breathing room. Jacksonville fought back and they started going over the top of the press and that led to a few easy lay ups.
In the beginning of the final quarter,, the Titans cut the lead down to six points because of Fillies turnovers. After the Titans cut it to a two possession game the Fillies went on a 6-0 run to regain a double digit lead.
Pine Bluff was able to knock down a couple of free throws to put this the game away.
Kierra Brice led all scorers for the Fillies with 15 points, and Jaiden Woods followed her up with 10 points.
