Field trip to offer students look at multiple aspects of crops, soil

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas high school students will have an opportunity to learn about invasive plants, erosion control, water quality monitoring and more on a field trip to the University of Arkansas Fayetteville.

The university’s Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences will conduct the Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability Field Trip Tuesday, Sept. 26.

The event is intended for high school juniors and seniors, and will take place at the department’s Agricultural Park. Attendees will have the option of taking two tours, each of which will offer visits to six areas of research.

“The CSES Environmental and Agricultural Sustainability Field Trip is popular with teachers because their students get first-hand experience related to the concepts they are studying in their science classes,” said Holly Yeatman, recruiting coordinator for the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences.

Yeatman said students are advised to bring water bottles and sturdy shoes and may bring their own lunch.

Teachers interested in bringing classes to the field trip may contact Yeatman at 479-575-5726, or by email at hyeatman@uark.edu.
