The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:
• Tutor U Learning Centers, 7501 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of opening inspection Nov. 13. Okay to operate- permit given.
• Larry’s Pizza, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Oct. 30. Some cold hold temperatures are out of safe temperature range in prep table refrigerator. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth.

• Larry’s Pizza, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection Nov. 9. Seals on some refrigerator doors are broken and need to be repaired or replaced. Hand sink nozzle is leaking and needs to be repaired. Floor tiles in front of mop sink are damaged and need to be repaired.
• White Hall High School, 700 Bulldog Drive, White Hall. Date of inspection Nov. 9. Automatic dishwasher temperature is not hot enough to sanitize. Temperature should be no less than 165 degrees F for a stationary rack, single temperature machine or 180 degrees F for all other machines. Automatic dishwasher was adjusted to adequate temperature during inspection. Observed packs of drinks stored directly on the floor in dry storage. Packs of drinks should be stored at least 6 inches off of the floor.
• Dollar General Store, 14019 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Nov. 8. Facility lacks refrigerator thermometer. Food temperature measuring device shall be provided and readily accessible for use in ensuring attainment and maintenance of food temperature.
• Fred’s Discount Store, 8515 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Nov. 8. Some shelves throughout the facility, especially chip and drink shelves, are unclean and need to be cleaned. Ceiling in dry storage room has an accumulation of debris and needs to be cleaned.
• Simplee’s Barbeque, 700 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Nov. 7. Floors under fryers and other cooking equipment are unclean and need to be cleaned.
• Transformation Project, 1400 Centenial Lane, White Hall. Date of inspection Nov. 7. Single service container observed being reused. Single service containers should not be reused.
• Skateland, 3214 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection Nov. 6. Observation: Trash can in women bathroom needs a lid.
• The Green Door, 402 University Drive. Date of inspection Nov. Observation: A valid permit must be posted in view of the public. Corrective Action: It is unlawful to operate a retail food establishment without a valid permit. Contact the billing office at 501- 661-2171 to ensure that you are in compliance with the law.
• Lavender’s Barn, 4501 U.S. 65 South. Date of follow-up inspection. Some temperatures in reach in cooler are out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Hand washing sink leaking water from nozzle and needs to be repaired. Deep freezer door is broken and needs to be replaced.
• Motor Way Grocery, 3432 U.S. 65 South. Date of inspection Nov. 2. Observed employees multi-tasking without washing hands in between tasks. Hands should be washed any time contamination could have occurred, when changing tasks, and as described in the Arkansas Rules and Regulations Pertaining To Food Establishments section 2-301.14 A-O. Observed employee touching ready to eat onions during inspection. Gloves should be used when handling ready to eat foods. Employee put on gloves during inspection. Observed some raw beef and raw bacon being stored above ready to eat foods in reach in refrigerator. Raw meat should be stored below ready to eat foods. Some cold holding temperatures in walk in cooler are out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Observed fish sitting out to thaw. Food should be properly thawed using approved methods. Food workers observed not wearing hair restraints. Food workers shall wear hair restraints, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair. NC Single service cups at self service drink station observed being stored out of their original package and exposed to contamination. Single service items should be kept in their original packaging or by other means to protect them from contamination until being used. Observed a leak in the pipes of the three compartment sink- needs repaired. No hot water available at hand washing sink in restroom. Hot water generation and distribution systems shall be sufficient to meet the peak hot water demands throughout the retail food establishment. Observed trash cans containing food residue in kitchen uncovered when not in continuous use. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Current health permit is not posted. It is unlawful to operate a retail food establishment without a valid permit. Contact the billing office at 501-661-2171 to ensure that you are in compliance.
• Pine Bluff Convention, #1 Convention Center Plaza. Date of inspection Nov. 2. Seal on the bottom of the back door was broken. All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Observed some containers of food being stored directly on the floor in walk in cooler. Containers of food should be stored at least 6 inches off of the floor.
• AVITAJ LLC, 8006 Dollarway Road. White Hall. Date of inspection Nov. 1. Sausage patties in hot box were out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept hot at a temperature of 135.0°F or above, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Sausage patties were discarded during inspection. Correct test strips not noted in establishment. Test strips must be available and used to test the strength of chemical sanitizing solutions. Three compartment sink is unclean and needs to be cleaned. Toilet room door is not self closing. Toilet room door should be self closing. Some ceiling tiles throughout establishment are damaged or missing and need to be replaced.
