Fewer homes sold, prices higher, Realtors Association reports

LITTLE ROCK — Fewer homes were sold in Arkansas in January, but the average price of a home rose nearly 8 percent over January 2011, the Arkansas Realtors Association reported Monday.

The association said 1,297 homes sold in the state in January, compared to 1,312 in January 2011, while the average price of a home rose 7.7 percent to $148,428, compared to $137,872 a year ago.

“This is a great way to start 2012,” said Amy Glover Bryant, spokeswoman for the association. “In our opinion, these numbers reflect that there are fewer units on the market and as a result of this reduced inventory we are experiencing a higher price per sale,” she said.

Pulaski County had the highest number of homes sold in January with 214, followed by Benton County with 191, Washington County with 128, Garland County with 80 and Craighead with 70.

Sixty-one homes sold in Sebastian County in January and 19 in Jefferson County.

The average home prices for January were highest in Independence County at $207,671, followed by Pulaski County at $202,131, Garland County at $183,574, Cleburne County at $182,733 and Madison County at $168,500.

The average price of homes sold in Sebastian County was $144,370 in January. The average price in Jefferson County was $$67,602.
