Eyes wide open

We’ve already heard some rumblings of possible inappropriate activity surrounding the preparations for early voting at the Jefferson County Courthouse. It’s something we’re looking into. We just want everyone to know that there will be many people watching for misdeeds during this election. And anyone caught doing something that’s illegal will be held accountable.

We were pleased recently when we received the following letter from the State Board of Elections, which was sent to the Jefferson County Election Commission. It reads:

“Dear Members of the Jefferson County Election Commission and Jefferson County Clerk:

“Please be advised that the State Board of Election Commissioners has appointed a certified election monitor for the purpose of observing early voting, absentee ballot processes, and Election Day voting and absentee vote canvassing for the 2016 General Election to be held in Jefferson County.

“Upon arrival at the Courthouse or Election Commission office, the monitor will present a credential authorizing him as a certified election monitor from the State Board. Please ensure that the monitor has appropriate access to the processes that he needs so that he may properly observe.”

We aren’t at the point where names can be named, but those snooping around the courthouse and the voting machines take note: If any misdeeds are found, we won’t hesitate to report on it. Everyone is watching you.
