Deer hunters and landowners who are serious about the White-Tailed Deer should attend a workshop coming to Harbor Oaks Golf Club and Restaurant on May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This will be an excellent opportunity to understand deer nutrition, antler growth, food plot development, habitat management and harvest strategies from experts in the region. Wildlife specialists, deer biologists, and attorneys will be making presentations and answering questions. The workshop is sponsored by the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service, The Walton Family Foundation, The Arkansas Forest Resource Center and Mississippi State University.
There will also be discussion on setting up hunting leases including legal aspects and how to earn more from the land. Dennis Bailey, county Extension staff chair, said “this will be the best comprehensive opportunity ever to get this quality of education on the subject of deer management”.
Thanks to the sponsors, there will only be a $10 fee for individuals and $15 for a couple.
Registration is currently available by calling Wilma Dorn at 870-534-1033 or come by the Extension Office, 500 Idaho St., to pick up a registration form. A meal count is needed for Harbor Oaks Restaurant, who will provide lunch for the group at no extra charge.
Brochures will also be available at hunting supply locations in the county. For more information about the event, contact Bailey at 870-534-1033 or Grant Beckwith at 870-830-0473.
