If you need help planning your budget or using credit wisely, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service has the program for you.
Navigating the Financial Journey will be taught from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, 500 Idaho St.
For a fee of $15 per person, participants will cover topics including budget development, money management, wise use of credit, and consumer protection.
“Participants will learn how to protect themselves from consumer fraud and misrepresentation,” said Mary Ann Kizer, Jefferson County family and consumer sciences agent. Kizer noted that participants will learn about using credit cards and understanding their credit score.

This Extension course is open to all consumers and is approved by the United States Bankruptcy Trustee as a financial education program, and complies with the laws enacted under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) of 2005. A Certificate of Debtor Education will be presented to bankruptcy filers who bring picture identification and their bankruptcy case number.
The financial management program will be taught by county family and consumer sciences agents — Lincoln County, Jane Newton; Cleveland County, Diane Clement; Bradley County, Michelle Carter; and Jefferson County, Kizer.
