The Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service horticultural department presented Greens Field Day 2023 on Nov. 17 in the youth demonstration garden.

More than 125 members of the community attended the presentation conducted by county agent Timothy Wallace. Wallace gave a comprehensive presentation on cool-season vegetables and focused on the types of greens planted by the Jefferson County Master Gardeners during the fall/winter season, according to a news release.

Wallace also demonstrated how to harvest greens to have multiple harvestings. Once participants completed the program, Master Gardeners assisted them with harvesting greens. Participants were allowed to take all they harvested home to consume, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Community members were also invited to join the Master Gardener program. Master Gardeners are horticultural-trained volunteers who extend research-based information through demonstration and educational programs using horticulture best practices to strengthen communities and families throughout Arkansas.

To join the Jefferson County Master Gardener program, contact Timothy Wallace, county extension agent – 4-H/Agriculture, at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service, 500 Idaho Street, or call (870) 534-1033.
