Events scheduled for Kingfest Celebration

Events scheduled for the 31st annual Kingfest Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday are as follows:

* 7 p.m. Friday, Kingfest Youth and Young Adult Extravaganza at First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road.

The Rev. Jesse Turner, executive director of Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc., said about the event, “I know many people see Dr. King as a civil rights leader, but he was a clergy/pastor before he decided to step from behind the pulpit to fight for justice and equality for all mankind. This legacy must never be forgotten by youth and young adults.”

* 7 p.m. Sunday, Justice Sunday program at Watson Chapel Baptist Church at 5514 Pinnacle Lane.

The Rev. Marion A. Humphrey, pastor of Allison Presbyterian Church at Little Rock, will be the guest speaker. He is also a retired circuit judge for Pulaski and Perry counties and a native of Pine Bluff.

* Monday, Jan. 19, 31st Annual ICVR Kingfest Marade (Parade/March) through downtown Pine Bluff.

Participants are asked to line up at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1 p.m. The route will be south on Main Street to Second Avenue, east on Second Avenue to Convention Center Drive, then south on Convention Center Drive to the north steps of the Civic Center Complex. The marade starts at 2 p.m.
