The Jefferson County Board of Election Commissioners will hold an election day meeting beginning at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31.
The commission will remain in session until unofficial election results are announced at the election center, 123 Main St., Pine Bluff, at approximately 8:30 p.m. In the event commissioners are required to make a decision requiring a vote while the polls are open, it will be at the election center, according to a news release.
Commissioners remind voters only those who voted in the March 1, 2020, Democrat preferential primary election, nonpartisan judicial election, or did not vote, can vote in this Democrat general primary (runoff) election. If someone voted in the Republican primary, they are prohibited by law from voting. It is a violation of law to cross-over vote, according to the release.
Absentee ballots will be canvassed at the election center beginning at 3 p.m. Observing absentee ballot canvass and processing of election results after the polls close is limited to only a candidate or one representative of a candidate and media. The public can view election night processing via a livestream to the commission Facebook page @JeffersonCountyArkansasElections. Results will also be posted on a front window. However, be advised the sidewalk in front of the building is torn up.
Also, the election commissioners will hold a regular meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at the election center.
The agenda items include: approval of the March 30 and 31 minutes and unresolved or unfinished business including election day issues. Public comments will be heard on new business agenda items (two minutes per speaker.) New business includes adjudicating any provisional or absentee ballots.
