The Jefferson County Election Commission will meet at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the election center, 123 Main St., to conduct a voting machine demonstration for six foreign visitors. County Judge Mike Holcomb will be on hand to welcome the visitors to Jefferson County.
The viewing of voting machines will be followed by lunch at Chef Lee’s and a tour of the Delta Rivers Nature Center.
Visitors will be accompanied by a State Department escort and hosts from the Little Rock affiliate organization. The State Department has identified the following objectives for this project:
• To examine the civic and political engagement of young people in the U.S.
• To discuss the roles and responsibilities of elected officials to engage youth in campaigns and governance.
• To address the importance of nongovernmental and educational resources in promoting and sustaining youth involvement in civic society and political life in the U.S.
• To observe U.S. electoral processes first-hand.
