Election commission sets meeting March 24

The Jefferson County Board of Election Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, at the election commission office, 123 S. Main St.

“As a preventative measure to avoid spreading the COVID-19 virus, the public is discouraged from attending the meeting,” according to a news release. “Social distancing is in effect for any who do attend and will be strictly enforced. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines social distancing as it applies to COVID-19 as ‘remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.’ This means, ‘no hugs, no handshakes’.”

Tentative agenda items include March 31 election update and public comments on new business (two minutes per speaker.) New business includes poll worker pay and certifying the reduced polling sites logic and accuracy testing.
