Ashley Vickers, a senior nursing major from Dumas, was among 45 students from Southern Arkansas University at Magnolia to assist the women’s shelter in Amarilo, Texas.
The group offered community service while in route to Winter Park, Colorado, with SAU’s annual Alternative Spring Break trip.
Vickers and the group helped sanitize and organize inventory at local thrift stores that benefit the women’s shelter. Students also prepared meals for shelter residents and assembled toys for their families.
After the service projects, the group headed to Winter Park to ski. Since 2010, SAU Student Activities has been organizing trips as opportunities for students to volunteer.
