A parent summit was held Aug. 8 at Robert Morehead Middle School for parents, community and staff of Dollarway High School.
The four-hour summit was held to understand the purpose of a strong school/parent relationship. Those in attendance had a chance to discuss their thoughts, perceptions, expectations and suggestions to improve the connection with the school.
Principal Jeff Spaletta welcomed the guests and Jakayla McHenry sang a song. New Harvest Church of God pastor, the Rev. Travis Creekmore, led a prayer. Jerry Derlikowski from Community Resource and Innovations about parent involvement.
Marie Parker from the Arkansas Leadership Academy facilitated a workshop. The group took a lunch break, which was sponsored by the Dollarway School District and matching funds with Arkansas Rural Community Alliance. Dollarway High School Parent Facilitator Elouise Shorter spoke to the group and gave door prizes.
Spaletta said that the information gathered would be used with other school data to make smart goals. The school will communicate with parents and community through the school website and school Facebook/Twitter pages from the data received. There will be a monthly parent newsletter, parent meetings and PTO meetings for the parents to become involved.
The summit was originally scheduled for the TOPPS Big Rec Center, but was moved because of a scheduling conflict.
