Parents, community members, school board members, teachers and administrators of Dollarway School District recently toured the New Tech High School at Arkadelphia.
The group included Melvin Bryant, assistant superintendent; Martin Golden, technology interests; Gwen Litzsey, assistant principal at Dollarway High School; Dollarway High Principal Jeff Spaletta; Phyllis Childs, parent, teacher; Annie Bryant, parent, PTO member; Santwali Helton, teacher; Diane Murrell, teacher; Dorothy Singleton, school board member; eighth-graders LeRose Spicer and Remello Turner;*** and Tammi Dockett-Wilson, school improvement specialist.
Dollarway High has conducted the grant application process to become a new tech high school. Grant recipients will be announced in late November. The New Tech Validation funding is a 4.5-year grant.
While at the day-long tour in Arkadelphia, participants learned about the New Tech program and were able to see the processes involved at the school. Follow up presentations will be made with all stakeholders of the Dollarway School District.
New Tech Network is a nonprofit organization that helps students gain the knowledge and deeper learning skills they need to succeed in life, college and careers. The organization works nationwide with schools, districts and communities to provide services and support that enables schools to re-imagine teaching and learning.
