A’Mauri Gurndy, a senior majoring in hospitality and tourism management at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, was chosen for the Disney College Program HBCU Cohort, powered by Disney on the Yard in Orlando, Fla., for the summer of 2024.
Recently, Disney extended his internship to February 2025, according to a news release.
Gurndy plans to complete his fall semester remotely while working in Florida, according to UAPB Student Affairs. He wants to return to UAPB at the commencement of December in hopes of being hired full time at the end of his temporary appointment.
“Originally from Pine Bluff, Ark., Gurndy has shown exceptional dedication to his studies and extracurricular activities, including his previous UAPB Spirit Team member role,” according to the release. “He shared that his commitment and perseverance are inspired by the scripture Ecclesiastes 9:11 and serve as a beacon of inspiration for all aspiring students.”
The Disney College Program HBCU Cohort offers students a unique opportunity. It allows them to gain hands-on experience in hospitality and tourism while immersing themselves in the Disney brand.

“Gurndy’s enthusiasm and passion for the industry make him an ideal candidate for this program, and his future with Disney is something to look forward to,” according to the release. “His unwavering commitment to the hospitality and tourism industry is a testament to his drive and ambition.”
Looking ahead, Gurndy plans to leverage his experience with the Disney College Program to pursue a full-time career with Disney, whether at one of their amusement parks or cruise ship lines.
The UAPB Student Affairs Foundation Fund partially supported Gurndy’s internship experience. The Student Affairs Foundation Fund is led by Frank D. Dorsey II, UAPB Dean of Student Involvement & Leadership, who “believes that students like A’Mauri deserve the opportunity to experience the magic of Disney.”
Working as a UAPB Foundation Fund board member, Dorsey developed the Student Affairs Foundation Account in 2021 to enhance the division’s programs and services, aiming to maximize learning and improve student life quality.
“We utilize these foundation funds to assist students in unique situations that cannot be addressed through our state funding,” Dorsey said.
Dorsey also shared that students wishing to be considered for assistance can visit the Office of Student Involvement & Leadership in the L.A. Davis Sr. Student Union, Suite 211, or the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs in the UAPB Administration Building, Suite 209. UAPB employees can contribute to the Student Affairs Foundation Account through the employee-giving program.
