Director of PB-Jefferson County Historical Museum resigns

The executive director of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum has resigned, a member of the museum board said Wednesday.

Pam McFall, secretary of the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Historical Museum Board of Commissioners said that Kristi Alexander submitted a letter of resignation, effective immediately, to board chairman Mark Kalkbrenner on Monday.

“The chairman sent a brief email to all board members Monday night notifying us of the situation,” McFall said. “The museum will be closed until the board meets next Wednesday to discuss where we go from here.”

McFall said that the board will meet 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the museum located at 201 E. Fourth Ave.

Jefferson County Judge Dutch King said Thursday that Kalkbrenner told him the letter he received in the mail from Alexander included no explanation for her abrupt departure.

“She included the keys to the museum as well as a computer disc with some documents on it,” King said. “Mark (Kalkbrenner) said that he has tried to call her three or four times but kept getting her voice mail.”

King said that the board plans to reopen the museum Monday with the help of volunteers.

“I hate that it happened the way that it did but we will work around it and make the best of a bad situation,” King said.

Alexander became museum director in February 2011. Her work history includes a career of more than 35 years in art and history museums.
