Tebow cut by Pats
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots got down to the NFL-mandated 53-man roster limit on Saturday by releasing quarterback Tim Tebow and a host of others.
Tebow joined the Patriots in June and survived the first round of cuts earlier this week. He also threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes in his final audition on Thursday in New England’s 28-20 win over the New York Giants.
The former Heisman Trophy winner was reunited in New England with the coach who drafted him in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. McDaniels was the head coach of the Broncos at the time.
Vince Young among Green Bay cuts
GREEN BAY, Wis. — It appears that Vince Young will not be the backup quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers.
The Packers made it official on Saturday, releasing the 30-year-old veteran as well as 21 others to move their roster down to 53 players.
Green Bay released quarterback Graham Harrell earlier this week, leaving Young as the presumptive top candidate to be Rodgers’ understudy. However, that will not be the case.
Young, who signed with Green Bay in early August, last played in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. He appeared in six games that season and threw for 866 yards with four touchdowns and nine interceptions.
