WC junior high football physicals Tuesday

Physicals for the eighth- and ninth-grade Watson Chapel Junior High football players will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the high school fieldhouse.

Bowhunters club shoot set for Saturday

Pine Bluff Bowhunters is hosting its July club shoot Saturday.

This is a 3-D archery tournament anyone may participate in. Divisions include pro, men’s and ladies’ open, men’s and ladies’ bowhunter release, novice, traditional, known distance, seniors, youth, Cub and pee-wee. Registration is from 8-10 a.m. with a stagger start.

The club is located just off Island Harbor Marina Road. Beginners are welcome.

UGA’s Mitchell leads Southern Am

LITTLE ROCK —Keith Mitchell, whose clubs were stolen out of his car two weeks ago, cobbled together an assortment of clubs borrowed from several University of Georgia teammates and surged into the halfway lead at the 106th Southern Amateur at Chenal Country Club.

Mitchell has a two-day total of 8-under 136. Central Florida graduate Brad Schneider and North Carolina State’s Hunter Howell are two shots off the pace. The world’s No. 1 amateur, Bobby Wyatt of Mobile, Ala., is in contention at 5-under.

Wildlife officials propose duck season format

LITTLE ROCK — State wildlife managers Thursday proposed a duck season format of three segments with two no-hunting splits.

Under the proposal, presented to the state Game and Fish Commission at its monthly meeting, duck, coot and merganser hunting dates are Nov. 17-25, Dec. 6-23 and Dec. 26-Jan. 27.

White-fronted goose dates proposed are Nov. 17-Jan. 27, and show, blue and Ross’ goose dates proposed are Nov. 5-Jan. 27 statewide. Canada goose dates were set earlier.

Colts sign quarterback Luck

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have signed quarterback Andrew Luck, the top overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.

Luck reportedly agreed to a four-year, $22.1 million deal.

Luck is a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist from Stanford who set school records in completion percentage (67 percent) and all-time touchdown passes (82). He threw for 9,430 yards and only 22 interceptions with the Cardinal.

Predators’ Weber signs offer sheet from Flyers

Defenseman Shea Weber signed a 14-year offer sheet from the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday, and the Nashville Predators have one week to match the offer to one of its stars.

Weber is a two-time first-team NHL All-Star and two-time Norris Trophy finalist. The contract, if Nashville doesn’t match the offer, would lock him up until he is 40.
