The Desha County Chapter of the Compassionate Friends will host the Worldwide Candle Lighting Remembrance program honoring children who died.
The observance will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Dumas Community Center at Dumas.
At 7 p.m., participants will light candles in memory of all their children gone too soon … “that their light will always shine,” according to a news release. A reception will follow the ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend the free event.
Members of the Desha County Compassionate Friends will join the National Compassionate Friends in the 23rd annual remembrance service. The presentation will include readings, poems, candlelight ceremony and music.
“Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting on the 2nd Sunday in December unites family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren (all children) who have died, but will never be forgotten,” according to the release. “The annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from The Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone.”
