The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will present Black Lives Matter, a community forum from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Bethany Chapel Church, 1923 S. Olive St. The public is invited to attend.
Panelists will include juvenile court Judge Earnest Brown, Pine Bluff Assistant Police Chief Ivan Whitfield, Pine Bluff Police Sgt. Hosea Thompson, and Milae Wilson, student government president at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
Presenters will focus on relationship building between young African American males and law enforcement. This includes how to respond when encountering law enforcement officers, laws regarding illegal drugs, under aged drinking, texting while driving and sexting, according to a news release.
“Our goal is to bring awareness to barriers and stereotypes that impede effective communication, mutual understanding, and overall respect between young African American males and society,” a spokeswoman said in the news release.
Kelly D. Bryant is the president of the alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
