Dell-Cam Farm to host tour July 23

Dewayne Goldmon, owner and operator of Dell-Cam Farm at Wabbaseka, will host a 2015 Model Farm Tour on Thursday, July 23. Field tours will be held from 8-10:30 a.m.

Sponsored by the National Black Growers Council, the event is part of a series of tours to demonstrate integrated usage of U.S. Department of Agriculture programs and technologies that can be used to improve farm productivity.

The farm will be open to the public. The tours will be followed by a program and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the S.J. Parker Extension Complex at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

The farm is at 16401 U.S. 79N in Wabbaseka, between Altheimer and Wabbaseka on the north side of U.S. 79. The property is a family row crop farm that produces corn, grain sorghum, rice, soybeans and wheat.

Registration for the tour begins at 7:30 a.m. at the farm. Attendees can go directly to the farm or they can ride in one of the UAPB vans to and from the farm.

“The vans will leave promptly at 7:30 a.m. from the 1890 Extension Complex parking lot,” said Henry English, head of the UAPB Small Farm Program. “The tour will focus on nutrient management, conservation programs, wildlife habitat management, irrigation efficiency and precision agriculture.”

Dell-Cam Farm is one of six model farms on the 2015 farm tour. Other farms are located in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Georgia.

Representatives from USDA and the agricultural industry will share details on the implementation of their programs and use of their products.

NBGC has partnered with UAPB and Morehouse Black Farmers and Landowners Association, a community-based organization headquartered in Bastrop, Louisiana, to host the event. Sponsors also include Farm Credit Services, John Deere, Monsanto and Syngenta.
