Deadline set for grazing land disaster assistance

Ranchers who suffered a loss on grazing land from the drought of 2015 may qualify for compensation through the Livestock Forage Disaster Program.

Henry English, director of the Small Farm Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, reminded farmers that the deadline is Saturday, Jan. 30.

To apply, ranchers must have a farm number; have certified their pastures by July 15, 2015, or if not certified, pay a $46 late fee. If pasture is leased, they must have the signature from whom the pasture is leased; know the number of cattle (adult and non-adult on hand); and complete form CCC-853.

Check with the local Farm Service Agency office to see if your county suffered a qualifying drought condition if you are interested in being compensated for grazing losses, English said.
