State SeaPerch challenge begins Friday
The Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas and Arkansas 4-H will host the annual Arkansas SeaPerch Challenge, an underwater robotics competition, Friday through Sunday. Because of the pandemic, the competition will be virtual, according to a news release.
The SeaPerch is a remotely-operated submersible built from more than three dozen parts. The goal is to ignite students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
During the virtual contest, teams will submit engineering reports summarizing their design process and participate in a team interview.
Teams also have the opportunity to submit videos showcasing how their SeaPerch navigates through obstacle courses and completes other tasks.
The winner will advance to the International SeaPerch Challenge set virtually June 4-5. Details: seaperch.org.
