County Judge, others remember slain Holcomb brother

Tommy Holcomb Sr. was the brother of Jefferson County Judge Mike Holcomb, the father of sheriff’s deputy Tommy Holcomb Jr., and a constable.

Friends and family recalled the life of Tommy Holcomb Sr. who died following a shooting Wednesday evening.

“I feel like a part of me is missing, my brother got shot,” an emotional Mike Holcomb said Wednesday night at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, adding that Tommy Holcomb was “13 months younger than me.”

Mike Holcomb said his brother sang baritone in the Holcomb Brothers Quartet as well as being a constable.

“I can’t hardly talk right now,” said Mike Holcomb.

Justice of the Peace Delton Wright said he was at the hospital when doctors came out and “told the family he didn’t make it.”

“There were a lot of family members and friends out there and when they said that, there was a lot of screaming and crying,” Wright said. “It was awful.”

Justice of the Peace Ted Harden said described Tommy Holcomb Sr., as “a fine Christian man. I believe he sang in the choir at Watson Chapel Baptist Church, and of course he and his brothers sang in that Christian quartet.”

“It’s a real shame,” Harden said.
